Spotlight Games

Can Russell Wilson lead the Hawks' to a home "W" on Thursday Night?

This Thursday Night game will be huge! The Packers and Seahawks have both had average seasons but can still fight towards the sixth seed in the NFC playoffs. The running backs for both teams, Rashaad Penny and Aaron Jones both ran wild on Sunday. The team that manages to run the ball effectively will come out with the victory. In Seattle, I think the Hawks take this one.

The Titans had a huge upset over the Patriots at home. Now as they sit at 5-4, Tennessee is in a great spot to make another playoff run. Although the Titans have a great defense, they’ll have a real challenge in slowing down Andrew Luck and the hot Indianapolis Colts. It’s amazing that rookie Quenton Nelson is already playing like one of the best guards in football and his unit has allowed ZERO...yes zero sacks in the last four weeks. Tennessee is playing their best brand of football lately but so is Indianapolis. In a tight one, I’ll take the split in the series

When you lose to the Browns, you’re probably not making the playoffs. Just when the Falcons seemed to be gaining ground towards their third straight postseason appearance, they get embarrassed by Nick Chubb, who’s 176 yards on 20 carries, set the tone for a dominating afternoon for Cleveland. While Cleveland isn’t the laughing stock they once were, this is a game you cannot lose, especially in the NFC South. Sitting at 4-5, Atlanta may have to “run the table” to have any hopes at the playoffs. With the Saints, Packers, and Panthers still remaining, their season seems close to finished. However, the Falcons have played well at home and get an inconsistent opponent coming to town. I’m not sure what to think about Dallas. Are they turning a corner? This game should give us an indication on the prospects for the remainder of the year for both squads.

Atlanta Falcons 22, Dallas Cowboys 17

Two reeling teams that desperately need a W. Perfect for a classic rivalry game in the AFC North. With incumbent QB Joe Flacco dealing with a hip injury, Lamar Jackson may earn his first start as a pro. He could provide a jumpstart to a team that is on the mend. Meanwhile, the Bengals fired their DC Teryl Austin after three atrocious performance by the defense. With the Raiders, Broncos, and Browns (2X), the Bengals look to be in decent shape, assuming they don’t blow one of those contests. That what makes this game super important. A division game counts “for two” and whoever wins will have the leg up on the sixth seed in the AFC with Tennessee also in the mix. In a narrow one, the Ravens rebound while the Bengals drop their second straight.

Baltimore Ravens 16, Cincinnati Bengals 13

This is a tough game to pick. On one hand, you have the Texans, winners of six straight. On the other hand, you have the Redskins who don’t win pretty. However, 6-3 is 6-3. An ugly win is better than a pretty loss. The NFC East and AFC South have both proven to be mediocre and these two squads have taken advantage. The Redskins are at home and seem to play well there outside of the Falcons game. To me, this game is a toss up. If Adrian Peterson is able to break through for a couple of solid runs, the Redskins can set up the play action passing game and drive down the field. However, Houston has many weapons including DeAndre Hopkins, Demaryius Thomas, and emerging TE Jordan Thomas. I think many teams sleep on the Skins and I feel as if the Texans have escaped with too many wins this year. Washington catches them sleeping.

Washington Redskins 26, Houston Texans 16

What a saucy matchup. You have the 1-8 Jon Gruden led Raiders as they travel to Glendale to take on the 2-7 Arizona Cardinals. In four of their last five games, the Raiders have scored ten points or less. Ouch. It doesn’t help that their best receiver was rumored to retirement following the loss to Los Angeles this weekend. What is up with players retiring mid-season...or mid-game @VontaeDavis? Is this the new trend? Give up on your team? The Bills and Raiders are bad but c’mon man. The Cardinals are young and dumb but at least they’re not as dysfunctional as the Raiders. Gimme the home team to take their third win of 2018.

Arizona Cardinals 10, Oakland Raiders 9

Los Angeles just keeps on winning. The Chargers need to hope that Kansas City loses to the Rams. Then, the goal is clear: WIN OUT. The Bolts have one game left with KC so if they keep pace, they have a golden opportunity to steal the one seed in the AFC. The Broncos season is hanging on life support. They’ve been competitive in a couple of games but are unable to seal the deal. If they can’t steal this one, the curtains will be falling on Denver’s season this Sunday.

Los Angeles Chargers 21, Denver Broncos 17

Other Games:

New Orleans Saints 36, Philadelphia Eagles 20

Chicago Bears 24, Minnesota Vikings 20

Los Angeles Rams 30, Kansas City Chiefs 28

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20, New York Giants 19

Pittsburgh Steelers 34, Jacksonville Jaguars 16

Carolina Panthers 31, Detroit Lions 24

Bye Weeks: Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Jets, Browns, 49ers
